Bonnieux
The location of this property was an immediate draw to the project—only a 5-minute drive from the hilltop village of Bonnieux and with views of both this village and Lacoste — a rare find for sure! Rolling vineyards surround the home that sits on a private wooded lot. We can’t say that she had the prettiest of facades to work with at the get-go and the interior had major challenges with an untraditional layout. We definitely had our work cut out for ourselves.

The Project
She wasn’t easy on us… This was one of those projects where you encounter unforeseen roadblocks at every turn and the long, wet dreary winter months seemed to never end. In attempting to put in a new staircase to the upstairs, we encountered total bedrock. It took weeks to drill through an opening. We had a terrible time getting the tub into the downstairs bathroom and finished by pushing it through the window.
Transformation
We went with a traditional feel all around to accentuate the old stone “cave” living room, which felt like the heart of the home. In the bathrooms, we sourced antique furniture for vanities and antique doors for the bedrooms. The flooring was a blend of wood and warm stone tile.
Outdoors, while the wooded lot offered privacy, we had to be very careful when trimming the precious tree. It was an expensive, tedious job to strike the right balance between preserving the trees and preserving the views of the villages. Finally, the springtime arrived, yet when we laid down the last roll of fresh grass, the wild boar came and ripped it all up.
After
Somehow all of the hard work paid off and everything came together. In a matter of weeks on the market, she had been sold to a couple from the UK.
